Read How Josh Colwell Grew From $150M to $600M

Josh Colwell, CFP®, AAMS® Leaves Edward Jones to Launch CoWealth Advisors of Raymond James

Newnan, GA – Winthrop & Co. proudly announces the launch of CoWealth Advisors, founded by Josh Colwell, CFP®, AAMS®, in partnership with Raymond James. After more than a decade with Edward Jones, Josh made the strategic decision to break away and establish his own independent practice under the Raymond James platform—one that better reflects his holistic approach to financial planning and his commitment to long-term client success.

Josh built his practice from the ground up since entering the industry in 2013. By year 7, he had grown to 250 households and reached Level 10 at Edward Jones—an elite production tier—well before many of his peers. But with that success came limitations.

“I hit a wall,” Josh said. “I outgrew the model. I needed the freedom to hire support, to scale, to serve my clients more efficiently. At a certain point, it wasn’t about comfort—it was about conviction.”

Despite managing over $150M in assets, Josh wasn’t allowed to build a team or hire junior advisors. All client communication had to be approved and confirmed by phone, even after being sent via email. Compliance bottlenecks, limited product access, outdated technology, and a top-down culture that had shifted away from advisor autonomy were all factors in his decision.

“What used to feel like a culture of volunteerism now feels like control. We were once owners—now we’re employees,” he shared.

Josh spent nearly two years doing his due diligence before making the leap. He knew that wherever he landed had to reflect his values, provide room to scale, and offer the kind of tools his clients deserve. Raymond James, and specifically the team at CoWealth Advisors, offered exactly that.

Outside of his professional role, Josh lives in Coweta County with his wife Kayte and their two sons, Davis and Charlie. The family is active in their local church and enjoys traveling, sports, and serving their community.

With CoWealth Advisors, Josh brings a planning-first, relationship-driven approach to Newnan and the surrounding area—offering a wide range of strategies from retirement planning and insurance solutions to business succession and legacy guidance.

His goal? To help clients not just plan for the future—but live it, generously and confidently.
