UBS Q3 2026: Americas Flows Grew While the Advisor Count Kept Falling

UBS reported third quarter results on October 28. Its Americas wealth region took in $16.7 billion of net new assets, against outflows of $8.6 billion a year earlier, while its advisor count fell again, to 5,601. What the report shows, what management said about attrition, and what it means for an advisor at UBS.

Industry AnalysisUBS Q3 2026 Earnings: Americas Flows and the Advisor Count

The short answer: UBS's Americas wealth region took in $16.7 billion of net new assets in the third quarter of 2026, against outflows of $8.6 billion a year earlier. Its advisor count fell again over the same quarter, to 5,601. UBS reports both figures in the same table, and they are the two numbers an advisor at UBS should read together.

In July, Winthrop & Co. read UBS's second quarter against a tally of departed teams. At that point the firm was gathering assets globally while its US seats emptied. The third quarter report, filed with the SEC on October 28, shows the Americas region gathering assets as well, with the advisor count still moving down.

The quarter UBS reported

MetricQ3 2026Q3 2025
Net profit attributable to shareholders$2.69B$2.48B
Global Wealth Management net new assets$55.1B$37.5B
Global Wealth Management profit before tax$1.92B$1.35B
Global Wealth Management invested assets$4,977B$4,714B
Americas net new assets$16.7B-$8.6B
Americas invested assets$2,424B$2,284B
Americas profit before tax$530M$416M
Americas advisors (full-time equivalents)5,6015,779

All figures are from UBS's third quarter 2026 report. The Americas region covers Wealth Management US, which includes Canada, and Wealth Management Latin America.

The flows grew

A year ago the Americas region was losing assets. In the third quarter of 2025 it reported net outflows of $8.6 billion. This quarter the same region reported $16.7 billion of net new assets, a 2.7% annualized growth rate, and net new fee-generating assets of $7.5 billion. The region was already gathering assets earlier in the year, with $5.3 billion in the first quarter and $0.9 billion in the second, so the third quarter is the largest of the three.

The report does not say where those assets came from. Recruited teams, existing clients adding money and advisors growing their own books would all show up in the same line. On the call, management pointed to strong flows from existing advisors and improving advisor productivity. The report itself breaks the number down no further.

The advisor count did not turn

DateAmericas advisors
June 30, 20255,773
September 30, 20255,779
June 30, 20265,644
September 30, 20265,601

UBS counts advisors as full-time equivalents. Its footnote to the count says the decrease includes the effect of a second quarter 2026 reclassification of certain roles to align role classifications globally, that the reclassification mainly affected the Switzerland and EMEA regions, and that earlier figures were not restated.

These are UBS's own counts of its advisors. A count built from FINRA registrations or BrokerCheck measures something different, so the two should never be set side by side.

What management said about attrition

On the call, the chief financial officer said reported US wealth headcount was down "slightly under 1%" from the second quarter. He described a lag between advisor decisions and the point at which they show up in reported headcount, flows and production. He said announced leavers and recruited advisors are returning to typical levels at UBS.

Asked what normal looks like, he said the industry is still seeing a move to independent firms, and that "a degree of net attrition" is probably the norm rather than a flat count over time.

In July, UBS said it expected advisor dynamics to normalize over the course of 2026. The third quarter shows flows growing in the Americas and management describing recruiting and departures as back to typical levels, with the count still lower than a quarter ago. The fourth quarter report and the year-end tallies will show whether the count levels off.

How UBS's departures compare with the long-run wirehouse trend

The chief financial officer's answer, quoted above, was that some net attrition is normal while advisors keep moving to independent firms. Three sets of figures bear on that answer: two from the public record of team departures from UBS, and one from the long-run channel data.

The third quarter of 2026. At least 11 teams and advisors, managing at least $12.07 billion, were publicly reported leaving UBS between July 1 and September 30, 2026, counted by the date each move was first reported. That figure is Winthrop & Co.'s own compilation of publicly reported moves, each sourced to a trade outlet or to the destination firm's own announcement.

The running total since January 2024. Added to AdvisorHub's tallies for 2024, 2025 and the first half of 2026, the third quarter brings publicly reported team departures from UBS since January 2024 to more than $100 billion, across about 110 teams and advisors. These figures measure the assets departing teams managed when they left. How much of those assets finally transferred is not published, and moves that are never reported are not counted.

The long-run channel data. AdvisorHub, citing a 2024 Cerulli Associates report, puts the decline in wirehouse headcount at a 1% compound annual rate from 2013 to 2023. The same article reports that independent RIA headcount rose 5.2% and hybrid RIA headcount rose 3.5%. Over that decade, a slow net loss of advisors was the wirehouse pattern.

The two kinds of figures measure different things. Cerulli's is a rate of change in headcount across a channel; the tallies are the assets that publicly reported teams managed when they left one firm. Neither can be read against the other, or against UBS's own count of its advisors. Cerulli's decade also ends in 2023 and covers the wirehouses together, so it cannot show whether UBS's losses since 2024 have run at the channel's long-run pace. UBS's own record is in the yearly tallies: around 20 teams and about $12 billion in 2024, at least 54 teams and about $51.8 billion in 2025, and at least 27 teams and $28 billion in the first half of 2026.

What this means for an advisor at UBS

A strong quarter at the firm level and a falling advisor count can both be true, and neither settles a decision for an individual practice. The questions that do are specific to the advisor: the shape of the compensation grid against the book, the length of any commitment against the years left in a career, what an ALFA or Pathways election means for the practice at the end, and how clients would respond to a move.

Winthrop & Co. keeps a running UBS advisor moves tracker and a UBS Knowledge Center with the firm's current terms. UBS Pathways and the 2027 comp plan covers the retention loan, the ALFA program considerations cover sunset planning, and who to talk to first when leaving UBS sets out the order that protects an advisor's options. When does it make sense to stay is the counterweight, because staying is often the right answer.

Questions about an employment agreement, a deferred compensation schedule or a retention loan belong with the advisor's own securities or employment attorney.

Frequently asked

How did UBS do in the third quarter of 2026?
UBS reported net profit attributable to shareholders of $2.69 billion for the third quarter of 2026, against $2.48 billion a year earlier. Global Wealth Management took in $55.1 billion of net new assets and earned $1.9 billion before tax, and its invested assets reached $4,977 billion. The figures are from UBS's third quarter 2026 report, filed with the SEC on October 28, 2026.
How many financial advisors does UBS have in the Americas?
UBS reported 5,601 full-time-equivalent advisors in its Americas wealth region at September 30, 2026. The region covers the US, Canada and Latin America. UBS reported 5,644 at June 30, 2026 and 5,779 at September 30, 2025. UBS's footnote says the decrease includes a second quarter 2026 reclassification of certain roles, which it says mainly affected the Switzerland and EMEA regions, and that earlier figures were not restated.
Did UBS have outflows in the Americas in Q3 2026?
Not on a net basis. The Americas region took in $16.7 billion of net new assets in the third quarter of 2026, a 2.7% annualized growth rate. In the third quarter of 2025 the same region had net outflows of $8.6 billion. Departing advisors still take assets with them; the net figure is what remains after those departures and all new money.
Are advisors still leaving UBS?
The count is still falling. On the third quarter call, the chief financial officer said reported US wealth headcount was down slightly under 1% from the prior quarter, that announced leavers and recruited advisors are returning to typical levels, and that some net attrition is probably the industry norm.
Is it normal for a wirehouse to lose advisors over time?
AdvisorHub, citing a 2024 Cerulli Associates report, puts the decline in wirehouse headcount at a 1% compound annual rate from 2013 to 2023, and UBS's chief financial officer said on the third quarter 2026 call that some net attrition is probably normal. That decade ends before the departures counted since 2024 and covers the wirehouses together, so it does not settle UBS's own pace. Separately, publicly reported team departures from UBS since January 2024 come to more than $100 billion in assets at departure, by AdvisorHub's tallies and Winthrop & Co.'s own compilation of publicly reported moves; how much of those assets finally transferred is not published.
What should a UBS advisor do with this information?
Read it as context. A firm's quarterly report describes the franchise, and an individual advisor's decision depends on their own book, their agreements and where they are in their career. Questions about an agreement belong with the advisor's own securities or employment attorney. The business side of a move is a confidential conversation with Winthrop & Co.
